THE Steadfast Group has reported a surge in smoke detector and fire alarm installation inquiries in the North East in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster.
Calls since the fire in mid-June have come from a range of businesses and not just those with multi-storied premises, as companies review their procedures.
Ian Harbord, head of systems at Steadfast, said: “You would understand anyone involved with tall buildings looking into their safety procedures but we are seeing it across the board and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
“What happened in Camden at Grenfell was a national disaster and our hearts go out to all who have lost and suffered.
“But as we saw with the Hillsborough inquiry in football and other examples is that when you have an awful tragedy like this, lessons are finally learned and huge efforts are made by Government and local authorities, companies and individuals to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“What we’ve seen in our small way is an effort to make sure potential fire hazards are being properly looked at.”
Steadfast supplies security and CCTV cameras to business across the region and beyond but also installs smoke detectors and state-of-the-art fire alarm systems and is offering a free fire risk check to any business looking to review its’ fire safety risks.
The company is also taking fire training of its’ own security guards to a higher level with additional training planned.
Paul Harbord, director of security at Steadfast said: “Our guards are often the first responders on the scene at any event on premises and as such they have to be highly trained for every scenario.
“But in the wake of Grenfell we want to take that to a higher level and this week we have booked more than a dozen guards onto an intensive fire safety and warden course leading to certification.
“The courses will be rolled out across the company with a dozen or so guards at a time over the next few weeks to ensure all our guards are experts in terms of the correct way to deal with fire outbreaks and hazards.”
Any companies or local authorities, who would like free health checks of property and premises can call Steadfast on 0191 518 0837 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Steadfast also supplies fire security wardens to properties or high-rise towers.
